Yeah, sorry to burst your bubble, but I have read a lot of feminist film theory about horror films in general (Carol Clover and Barbara Creed in specific) and I mostly find their theories to be quite outdated. Here's what I saw last night from the Onion. Whatever you think of feminist film theory, the connection in that image is pretty obvious. I look forward to reading more of your work, Sonia! To go from this reaction to a more general epiphany about the negative treatment of women in pop culture is, perhaps, a more subtle act of interpretation than most people casually reading Oscar tweets are inclined to perform. As a woman who is fed the hell up with how girls and women are treated by the media and by our society at large. This article was not intended to be a thesis that delves into the world of misogynistic representations of from the perspective of a female, seeing is how these slasher flicks both revolve around and subject women. I have to go out of my way and say it – talk about it, hang out with other feminists, read a book that's called 'feminist film theory' or at least shout out on my blog header. The love-struck hero admires the beautiful woman from afar — it's a classic example of the voyeurism and passivity that feminist film theory is based on.
